Ntokozo has a refined taste when it comes to his signature style, he is an old soul who likes timesless pieces, pieces that tell a story, define character, and bring people together. This is what captured my attention in the decor of his apartment which he says he wants to use as a showroom for the kind of work he does.

Born and bred in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Ntokozo Majozi is an Architectural Designer. His interest in houses began as early as when he was in grade 3. Also known as AltJozi which is a combination of "alternative"and his last name Majozi, started by sketching houses in his spare time and kept a portfolio of all his sketches. He worked in corporate architecture for 6 years across South Africa and abroad. In the 6th year of being an architectural designer he fell in love with interior design and co-founded his own design studio; Maison Space with a friend during the hard lockdown in 2020. Ntokozo says his true passion has always been the interiors more than exteriors and the plan with establishing Maison Space is to integrate architecture with interior design as well as furniture. They offer full exterior and interior designing services as well luxurious bespoke furniture to finish the touch.

Best projects to date...

Illovo Central in Illovo, Sandton. It is a 16 story building which includes commercial, residential and retail space, the project took two years to complete and Ntokozo considers this project as one of his best works because they worked on it as a small team for the construction of a large scale building - "seeing how it looks after completion , I can't help but be proud", he commented.

With Maison Space, his best project to date is a coastal home in Durban, it was a renovation of an old beach house and he loved working on this project because the client gave them full autonomy to be creative as they can and it was their first project since the establishment of their design studio.

Your design philosophy?

His design philosophy is to create spaces for people to enjoy being in but ofcourse taking full consideration of a client's brief - " when I get a brief, I always think of how I want them to feel when they are in that space, I always consider the type of people I am designing the space for and currently I balance my designs with elements of modern design and contemporary design to create a nice blend of beautiful spaces".

Design trends that we can look forward to in 2022?

We can look forward to more textured fabrics, boldness, more prints and definitely more colour.
