Our Father/s Who Art in Heaven - The Art Room

Our Father/s Who Art in Heaven is a group exhibition curated by Lekau Matsena, opens this Sunday morning, 5 June 2022 at The Art Room Art Gallery and Printing Studio in Parkhurst, Johannesburg. The exhibition is set to open with speakers including Dr Baba Buntu – Men of Africa from Shabaka and Mr Craig Wilkinson – Father a Nation, with performances by Sebone wa Ratanga and Bikos Manna (Takalane Sesame) and it will also include fun activities for children.


The exhibition centralises around fathers who are artists, their art works have shared experiences surrounding absent fathers and where the artists are actively engaging in their respective relationships with their children. Our Father/s Who Art in Heaven includes twelve artists who interpret their experiences of fatherhood:

Lekau is a postwar and contemporary artist, his idea for the exhibition came from his own struggles with new-found fatherhood and the realisation that women support each other on an emotional level that men do not.

The exhibition will be open until the 2nd of July 2022, be sure not to miss this experience and pop by at The Art Room.
