Thapelo Boikanyo is a 22 year old aspiring menswear stylist, born and bred in Johannesburg, currently completing an Advanced Diploma in HR Management in Cape Town, comes from a diverse family defines himself as gold and a true believer of Christ, "everything that I do has to align with the plans that God has for me".
What encouraged you to be a stylist and what inspires your style?
Growing up with aspirations to be a fashion designer, Thapelo had his drip from a young age, his sister taught him style and always bought him clothes that were trending and in fashion, he would spend his days watching fashion shows on TV, researching latest fashion trends, he soon began styling and advising his friends when picking outfits and then started his own Instagram blog when he got to varsity.
His style is versatile; as seen on his IG, he portrays both a sophisticated gentleman and a modern casual look for men, "I would describe my style as elegance; mixing the old with the new and being a gentleman. I've always wanted and I was taught that I should always be a gentleman then I thought that one way that people could see that I am a gentleman is expressing myself by the way I dress".
Who is your style icon?
"Maps Maponyane, I look up to that guy's style, I look up to him as a businessman and a mentor, one of my dreams is being his mentee one day".
A fun a fact about yourself
A fun fact about Thapelo is his vibe; he doesn't drink nor smoke but one would swear he's ether on a high or sloshed on a night out with friends at groove because of his energy and fun spirit. Another one is that he thinks that he can sing but many would disagree.
What are your aspirations in the world of fashion?
My own menswear clothing line and a fashion consulting agency.
